Did you switch off your lights in view of the Earth Hour 2010 moments ago?
Well, I didn’t.

If you think that switching off everything for a mere 60 minutes entitled you to the ‘Earth Saviour Award’, you’re so wrong. Don’t get me wrong on this, I love my Earth.
But to save the Mother Earth from human destruction, long-term perseverance is the only way to go. Earth Hour 2010 is a failed public stunt.
It requires more than just 60 minutes to save the world from destruction, it requires patience, effort, cooperation between nations & eventually, self-realisation in each individual. And that’s perfectly why I don’t engaged in Earth Hour, because I uphold the belief that every hour is an Earth Hour.
I’m not an activist, I’m just a human. So tell me, what do you think about this?

i kinda agree as well.. im not very PRO earth hour, but i can only do my part.. for me, this year’s earth hour just came and passed by like that.. nothing interesting.. no turning off lights coz i was working.. oh well, spare it for another time ya! there’s actually no need for just ONE hour to save earth.. if we really care, we can always do that anytime! =)

No, if you really, we need to do it ALL the time. Telling yourself ‘anytime’ is just an excuse of procrastinating. Human race needs to do more than just switching off and life goes on after that.

Hi aaron,This post really attracts me
Well, if it doesn’t help.So what we can do to save this earth. Well, I supported it helps. But those are the things that we cannot see. AWARENESS is the main objective of the Earth Hour.
I believe factories are building up everyday, open burnings, destructions happened everywhere, and any action that will caused global warming. This one hour shows that, we are concerned, we are aware and we are trying to slow down the climate change. in this one hour, billions of people using electricity to the most minimal level.
If Every hour is earth hour, but my question is how many people will do that every hour. Switching all the lights, all the time is not going to work, you cannot stop how human which is so selfish behavioristic.Their mind is just to earn more and more money and don’t really care about what is going to happen to our earth. Some people might feel it is a public stunt.but in my opinion. Since humans are selfish, and cannot afford to do it every hour, everywhere, anytime. I face it realistically. And I like to save electricity so that I don’t need to pay so much. So the yearly earth hour is some sort of initiative and effort introduced by the WWF to raise the awareness about the climate change. I feel it is just the beginning of the efforts and it is more to come. If this is not going to work, so what is your alternative to save the world?

Hi Nic,
Thanks for the comment. This is by far the longest comment in my blog & I appreciate your view on this matter. I know exactly the main principle behind Earth Hour is to educate people and raise awareness among us, but my point is that the Earth Hour has deviated so much that its main principle has lost within. With all the corporate & nations pledging for an hour energy savings, of course they look better on paper but what about those behind the scenes energy wastage?
Switching off light doesn’t show that you’re concerned for the EH, it’s just like a public display of affection, life goes on after that. The question is NOT for you the ponder whether human will regard every hour as Earth Hour, the only thing we can do, as an individual is to save up as much as possible for the Mother Earth.
With those people flocking in to venue to celebrate Earth Hour, don’t you think that this ain’t what WWF wants to achieve? What they want is long term sustainability, perseverance.
But with those corporate funds come spiralling in, they can’t do anything but to go on the flow.
So now you get my point? In short, there’s a need to educate people to save up for long term, and not just the 60mins.

hi aaron
i am back to comment
I Guess what u mean is correct
i explained every day there as if tonnes of toxic gases exhumed from the factories….If there’s not concerned people to support the event, then how to show we are concern and we are aware of the matter. I guess about the celebration, i guess this is something great to be celebrated, and not some celebration for my uni’s new opening atm machines that I can see in real and not necessary at all. Awareness, perserverance and sustainability of the earth can be seen and it can be passed to our next generation.. i still think this is the beginning… When i first thought of it to join last year on 2009, I thought of how it can help the earth. Only One of ME? no ..my whole residential colleges OFF the unnecessary lights. This year, same thing goes to the whole street of my residential area. Different races, different people. I don’t know how u will thought of it, but my thought of it is great. And I will surely back to support the EH.

personally, i do it all the time. i leave myself in darkness in my room unless i need the light badly.
earth hour is just an event to serve as a reminder to everyone to do it, and do it at least for that one hour. i’d say that at least after this event people will be more aware of turning their lights off whenever. with all the publicity around it, the event does serve it’s main objective: to promote some earth lovin.
true, one hour doesn’t help a lot. but the mind changing does.

Don’t really care there is an earth hour or not, as long as I do my part to save the earth it is alright for me.
Anyway, I am driving halfway and I saw Sunway pyramid with lights off. =)

I think this kind of an awareness act isn’t long term. Well, it does only last for an hour. I don’t seem to see the point of switching off lights would help in anything. So what if the whole world black out for an hour.. In the next hour, things will be back to it’s original place. Again.

@nic Yearp, I appreciate your effort in supporting EH, and that’s exactly the failure of EH. U’re awaiting for the NEXT EH which is at least in one year’s time. How about the other 364 days? That’s what I’ve been stressing, long-term perseverance is the solution to our problem.
@gray I do not condemn this event, and I certainly hope that this does create awareness to the people. But at the end of the day, did it actually achieve its main objective? I highly doubt so.
@Baboon keep your spirit on! That’s what we need to do! Bits by bits to save the Earth.
@mabel It definitely isn’t the long term solution for it. And yea, life goes on after the 60mins. What the point of the hoo haa of EH then? Publicity.
