Tried two different Ice Kacang in Penang. One was at Lorong Selamat while another one was at Ayer Itam while having the Asam Laksa.

I still prefer the second one though!

The 3 days trip to Taman Negara, Pahang was great!

Wait. That was an understatement, it was awesome, amazing, magnificent, beautiful, and pretty, relaxing….I’m running out of words. But it’s one of those memorable trip.

Packed with activities like night hunting, jungle trekking, canopy walkway, rapid shooting, cave exploring. Damn I’ve to say this trip ignited my adventurous instinct.

It was a total different experience of travelling. You get to experience closer to the nature, crawl yourself in caves full of bat shits and venomous snakes, dipping in murky rivers, night trekking inside jungle looking for animals. I’d have gone back to that place at ANYTIME of my life.

Damn. I start to miss the place now.

Penang is definitely the place to look for the ‘best Asam Laksa‘ in town. But the ongoing debate on which stores has the undeniably KING of Asam Laksa is something for us to ponder, as for me, the best seems to be the Ayer Itam Asam Laksa, located just beside the pasar at the botton of Kek Lok Si Temple. It’s very easy to spot it as the place is thronged with tourists all the time.

The store has been operating for 3 generations and is still now managed by the grandson of the founder. I had this asam laksa 3 times for the past 4 years. Penang is my favourite tourist spot.

If you still have no idea about Asam Laksa…

“Asam laksa is a sour fish-based soup. Asam (or asam jawa) is the Malay word for tamarind, which is commonly used to give the stock its sour flavor. It is also common to use “asam keping” also known as “asam gelugor”, dried slices of tamarind fruit, for added sourness. Modern Malay spelling is asam, though the spelling assam is still frequently used.”

This particular store manages to retain the real taste of asam laksa, which is sour with bits of spicy taste. The dish is packed with cucumber slices, onions, chillis and of course the sardins that make a perfecto asam laksa!

Don’t ever step in here if you’re not the people who can stand filthy atmosphere and packed places, as the place is just right on top on drains with rats running around, literally.

And as for me, for great food I’ll go great length to try it out, and what’s more for a RM 3.00 asam laksa that reputably the best in Peninsula!

The weather was kind to me that day. Full-blown clear skies with the clouds forming the background. Awesome day.

Khoo clan was and still is one of the most powerful family in Penang. One of the prominent Khoo family is Dr. Koh Tsu Koon, the previous Chief Minister of Penang. They family spans more than 10th generations apart. Big bigggg family indeed.

That day was Dumpling Festival as well! So they had this Chinese Opera Soap played by locals to make some offerings to the god.

Rawang Gang headed to Kuala Selangor two weeks ago! Inspired by the influx of seafood temptation on facebook, it was my turn to organise this trip down south, and hell it was a trip worth of memories.

Kuala Selangor, dubbed as the Land of Seafood & Sunset-by myself-, is approximately 1hour drive from Rawang. (I took 1hour & a half) The road is longggg & curvy one, decorated by views of Oil Palm plantations and occasionally a few ‘kampong style’ houses. This place offers the peace & tranquility away from the city centre.

The long journey was a well-worth one indeed, the breeze & views it offered were simple breathtaking. And we reached just in time for the sunset view.

I’m still trying to learn to photograph the sunset. Landscape photography is still not my thang.

Anyways, we soon settled down on a restaurant recommended by friends. Food came within 10mins of ordering. How efficient was that!

A scrumptious seafood dinner! yuuuuum.

OK, bare with me as I try to translate the name of the dishes from Chinese to English.

Steamed Tiger Prawns. This was the king of the dishes. Cost us more than RM6/prawn. But it was worth the price, tho came with a small portion, but the freshness of the prawn is something you can’t easily find anywhere. It was juicy (each of us only got to taste one) till the core and that the prawns was marinated with a tad bit of ‘hua jiu’, thus the scent of it blended very well with the taste.

Ok, I gave up on this. I have no idea what is it called but then it was part of the shell family. It was boiled before served with their specially made chilli sauce. Taste nothing when you eat it plain but the chilli sauce complimented it well enough, for you to appreciate the beauty of this simply dish.

‘Oo-Jian!’ Fried Oyster. This was really good. It was crunchy and succulent at the same time. The oysters were fresh so no worries for any sting smell. So much for being ironic, but they blended well together, bringing you some sort of ‘hot n cold’ sensation. Recommended!

Fried sotong. Expensive. I like how they fried it anyways, not too brownish but the texture was just nice to chew it. The freshness of the sotong contributed a lot to the overall taste.

Sorry for the messy table…Anyways a group pictar of us!

If you find the long drive to Kuala Selangor is too much for you to bear, Klang shall be another good alternative for seafood.

This is a non-halal post.

Macau serves this REALLY aweshum Pork Burger & Wan Tan Mee!

It beats the famous Petaling Street Wan Tan Mee we had last year, and definitely the pork burger is the best I’ve ever tried when I was abroad.

Look at the big portion of rib meat they served me, so sinful yet so delicious. Still remember the crunchy feeling of ingesting the whole burger into my mouth. (yuuuuum!)

And it ain’t easy to find this famous stall full of crowd! We had to walk at least 20mins from the closest bus station to locate this remote stall beside a huge tree, but walking in Macau was a bliss with its cooling weather & nice buildings around the streets.

They serve awesome Wan Tan Mee too! And if you’re a big fan of this Chinese cuisine, you should never miss this in Hong Kong. The whole thing about this mee is the texture of the MEE itself, and Macau has this really nice home-made mee that you can never find back in M’sia. Talk about preserving tradition ehh.

So do you salivate now?

This Valentine wasn’t very much of a Valentine, at least the ‘loneliness’ didn’t creep into me. But well, who needs another partner when you’re definitely having the best time of your life! I certainly do feel so!

But who knows, on the day when I meet the ‘Special One’, I wouldn’t afraid to say,
Being a total denial of anything that V comes up with, we actually (reluctantly) followed her to Bangsar during PEAK JAM PERIOD for the lunch after class last Friday.

aaa

aaa

We (Aaron, Ben, Richmond, Alveena, Syd, Stephy) excluded my usual boss (San2) drove two cars up to Bangsar Village to have a good look on the dishes offered. Oh well, OTW, Ben, apparently, banged on of the Porshe car. So if you happened to be the owner that parked at BANGSAR VILLAGE around the time of 1.30pm (22 Jan 2010), and that you found a big dent on your Porshe car, most likely the culprit is HIM la. PM me if you want to get back some refund, subject to 10% service tax tho.

aaa

aaa

Anyways, back to the food. We were at Chatterbox, Bangsar Village, thanks to the kind Richmond that dropped us off! (The one that didn’t bang the Porshe)

aaa

aaa

The main purpose being there was to check out their cheese-baked rice.

aaa

aaa
The signature HK drink (Lai Char), Cheese-baked chicken rice tomato sauce(left) & cheese-baked seafood rice.

aaa

My food! It looked rather plain but seriously, it was REALLY REALLY nice. One of the best cheese-baked rice I ever had! I especially like the crusty cheese on the outer side because as I chewed it, the crusty top blended well with the cheese, which made it something like pizza sensation. yuuuuum! And the chicken inside was really tender and juicy, worth every single buck I paid for! (RM 13.90)

OK lah, worth the journey & the trust we put in you V! You did us proud this time. :p

Ops, left out two person.

aaa
Stephy Kong (blushing) She promises to date me if I drive a Porshe, and if Ben doesn’t bang it.

aaa
The to-be-eighteeen Sydney. You can call her ah neyyyy actually. Specifically extend the end words.

aaa
Our group shot before heading back.

aaa

Absolutely condemned the church arson act by those headless chicken. Oh well, they don’t have brains after all

I was at Venetian, Italy over last weekend since my Italian friend, Francesco Totti invited me over there to have a great glance at their city of pride. Totti was a international footballer like me, and we played a few good matches together before parting ways, as my parents thought that my legs would be put to better use in college than on the football pitch.

So yea, that was exactly how I ended up HERE.

It was such a beautiful country, the sun was never hot, and it never rained! Most importantly you could never see the end of the day there. How cool was that!

But there’s a problem I shall never figure it out. Not a single ang mohs were in sight, while Asians were scattering around taking pictures like they have never taken anything before. Talk about civilisation.

Orang kampung macam saya. :p

It was plain breathtaking to be standing right there, on foreign soil. No church bombings or handbag snatchers with mat rempits around. I actually enjoyed myself alone there without the need to care my camera gears. (was touring alone)

The boats were automatically operated tho, I was amused by it, since the river was clearly 1 feet deep and obviously wouldn’t drown you.

Aghhhhh, look at the lovely skies. No birds chirping or droppings from there.

Christmas atmosphere was absolutely different there. There was no Santa Claus, no kids running amok begging candies, no snowman. All I heard was, ‘Gong Xi, Gong Xi, Gong Xi Ni!’ ROLFMAO.

Absolutely love the building structure there. Why can’t we have something like this back in M’sia!

All left was only this!
