Yasmin Ahmad, RIP.

While I was strolling Facebook,. looking for something rather intriguing to spend another sleepless night due to INSOMNIA, something struck me hard in the chest. A personal status message instantly captured my attention.

“RIP Yasmin Ahmad. May God be with you.”

Some random friends followed suit and posted messages sending tribute to Yasmin Ahmad. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that, sparkling a storm search for the official news about her death. I stumbled across a lot of entries, went as far as to Twitter to find the source. It was something that I truly didn’t want to happen, but the truth unfolded right in front of my eyes. Yasmin Ahmad passed away on 11.30pm, 25th June 2009.

It came as a shocking news to me, hitting me hard like a Tsunami, instantly brought my knees down. Malaysia just lost one of her greatest talent. It was such a waste to die in such a young age, aged 51 years old.

Though I admire her films and advertisements, I didn’t know about the existence of such a talented Malaysian till this year, where everyone in the town was discussing about her latest blockbuster movie, Talentime . Since then, I’ve been following her for quite some time, checking out her latest advertisements, read her blog posting and somehow we interacted through email as well.

Her legacy will forever be remembered through her famous advertisements for Petronas, and presenting you, among my favourites.
